EXECUTIVE JOB SEEKERS:

IS YOUR CONFIDENCE LEVEL FAILING YOU?

You can be forgiven for feigning a tough and resilient presence in the wake of an extended job search.

Nobody wants to look, feel or sound desperate during their job search, but it can become quite a daunting task as your search extends.

You will start questioning yourself, your skills, your presentation, and your approach.

You will start to accept all the preconceptions, misconceptions and myths; and your fears will feed the belief you are either too old, or too young; over-qualified, or not enough; too long in one organisation, or too many jobs in a short time.

AND YOUR CONFIDENCE WILL BE HEAVILY BRUISED

EXECUTIVE CONFIDENCE IS ALSO SOMETHING OF A MYTH

You might look at colleagues – new or old – and marvel at their confidence and competence, even wishing you could face your own future armed with their capability and resilience levels.

The reality is though, from research some time ago, is that:

88% of executives feel they’re not living up to their potential.

73% would like to be more confident.

70% admit to having self-limiting beliefs.

66% is the average confidence level.

90% to 100% is the aspirational confidence level.

So, what you see, hear and feel about others, might not be the full picture.

BUILDING YOUR CONFIDENCE IS CRITICAL – RIGHT NOW.

There are 3 key areas you must focus on to provide a solid platform:

YOU MUST have a clear and consistent presentation of your Key Value-Adding Strengths, and genuine value, running right through your CV/Resume and your LinkedIn profile.

YOU MUST be approaching your job search in a professional manner, consistent with your level and it must include a consistent focus on the unadvertised job market.

YOU MUST be prepared to respond positively to all/any interview questions you might be asked; and be correctly prepared to ask grown-up questions, not those asked by juniors.

Sadly, most executives believe they are correctly presented and prepared and are convinced they exude confidence.

 They are wrong. They don’t.

Most executives are convinced they are job searching correctly and know how to engage their network of contacts.

They are wrong. They’re not.

Most executives believe their experience and expertise in interviewing candidates for jobs has prepared them to be interviewed.

 They are wrong. It doesn’t.

Most executives believe they can present a convincingly high level of confidence and competence through their job search process.

They are wrong. They can’t.

Don’t fall into the trap and hinder your search.

DON’T DECEIVE YOURSELF – AND AVOID TRYING TO DECEIVE OTHERS

Hiding from reality serves no one, least of all you and everyone important to you.

If you think you can overcome it by trying harder, you probably won’t.

If you’re worried about it hindering you or your future, it’s time to do something about it before it does.

IT’S YOUR FUTURE – DOES IT MATTER TO YOU?

If now isn’t the right time – how much worse must things get before it is?

If now is the right time, we ought to speak soon.
