🔎 Here are 3 lessons I learned after working with a narcissistic boss from hell a decade ago:
1. Business owners are not natural born leaders or managers. I thought some might have been, but boy, was I wrong
2. Bad management is a reflection of how they see themselves. Change needs to start from within
3. To fear raising issues is fuel for people who thrive on unearned power + authority
There are 2 completely opposite stories I have to share about my experiences with past bosses. One made it his mission to try to ruin my life by bullying me through a miscarriage and then harassing me when I resigned (a story I recently started to share on Linkedin). And the other supported + nurtured me through my professional development and invested in my growth.
🤔 But BOTH bosses discriminated against me on different grounds. How could this be?
📗 I spent years studying the science and psychology of leadership and HR I decided that (some) managers behave in certain ways due to a huge gap in core competencies in effective leadership (others are just plain egotistic).
These core competencies are:
🧠 Emotional Intelligence: nobody is born with this, we grow it
⁉️ Critical Thinking: only 14% of people can do this
⏳ Stress + Time Management: we talk about this but don't actually know how to manage it
💬 Communication: its more than speaking to people and sending eams
Without these fundamental skills, I hate to break it to you, you will never become a 'good manager'.
So, before bad management started to breed, I made it my mission to create a truly life changing leadership program.
The only way to prevent becoming one of the bosses I talk about above is through educating ourselves on leadership matters and focussing on ourselves.
