This is the exact question I asked my client towards the end of a coaching session the other day. This question was kind of unrelated to the topic of conversation we had just had. However, it just came to me in the moment as a final thought-provoking takeaway, so I posed it.
I held the space, and after some silence my client replied with such humbleness and calm, “be honest”.
Then, with even more clarity she said, “the most courageous thing I can do, is be honest with myself, that’s me in integrity”.
“Yes!” I replied. “That’s a super courageous thing you can do”.
The insight for me is that courage can be whatever we decide it to be. We all have our own courage spectrum.
Brene Brown’s courage work says it all:
“Courage is to speak one’s mind by telling all one’s heart”.
“Every time we choose courage, we make everyone around us a little better and the world a little braver.
“Courage is contagious”.
