Look, sickness is sickness and employees have the right to sick leave. But…..

There is also such thing as malingering. This is when an employee pretends to be unwell/exaggerates illness in order to escape work.

There are many causes of malingering from lack of dedication to role, disliking managers and even laziness! It’s damaging to business but also only few businesses are equipped in dealing with suspected malingering which then causes further and unnecessary damage.

If you suspect malingering is prevalent then you must approach this cautiously and fairly ensuring employees are not shunned in matters of true illness.

In my experience, many managers make emotive decisions and progressive friction between the two parties are the reason for many of these matters tuning sour.

If you’re finding that emotions are blurring the facts of the case, then it is vital to instruct a third party HR consultancy to deal with the matter to avoid unfairness and prejudice. Say hello to HR Habitat Ltd
