POOR EMOTIONAL REGULATION

Hi, My name is Andrea and I am a professional self development and mindset coach!

I am going to share with you over a series of articles, the most common causes of procrastination and how to overcome them!

So what is procrastination?  It is the avoidance of a task which needs to be accomplished.

What can seem like normal delaying tactics in one area can start to contaminate all other areas of your life!

This can lead to anxiety, stress and even depression!

Poor Emotional Regulation is probably one of the biggest causes of procrastination!

This can mean not being able to calm down, avoiding difficult emotions, or even focusing your attention constantly on the negative. It can also lead to poor coping skills and over exaggerated reactions to certain situations. A lot of people can be very overwhelmed by their emotions and this can have a massive effect on moving forward with their lives or their business, leading them to naturally procrastinate.  

To try and help self regulate and control these emotions and improve how you feel there are a few simple steps you can take.

  1. Create a safe space. Emotions can happen fast and if you can take yourself to a space where its quiet, you can take your mind to a calmer place.
  2. Notice what you feel. ...noticing what you are feeling and being able to accept that emotion means you can start to take control of it.
  3. Accept the emotion. ...accepting your feelings and letting them be means you are not suppressing them or pushing them away.
  4. Practice mindfulness. ... Mindfulness meditation involves sitting silently and paying attention to thoughts, sounds around you and the sensations of your breathing. 
  5. Identify and reduce triggers. ...
  6. Tune into your physical symptoms...
